Celtic Boyne Valley Itinerary

8:00am We meet at the Molly Malone statue on Suffolk Street (map is linked on our booking page). You will board our comfortable coach, meet your guide and fellow travellers and then sit back and relax as we head out of Dublin and head west to our first visit at Loughcrew.

9:45am The unique tomb is ours to explore and once inside, you have the opportunity to view intricate artwork that has survived for thousands of years. There are a number of Cairns on the site ready for exploration. It is a truly impressive site and a unique experience.

11:00am It wouldn’t be a drive through the Irish countryside without seeing lush and picturesque landscapes. The scenery is breathtaking as we head to the town of Trim, home to an impressive and well preserved Anglo-Norman castle. Trim Castle is the largest castle of its type in Ireland. The movie ‘Braveheart’ was filmed in the grounds and you can see why. With a castle so well preserved and with such stunning grounds, Hollywood would be hard-pressed to find something better! You will have time to explore the sprawling castle and grounds. This is a fantastic photo opportunity. Your guide will give you information in relation to the history of this fascinating castle and the surrounding area.

12:20pm The most sacred site of Ancient Ireland is the Hill of Tara, and this is where we head next. An important and historic site in the Boyne Valley region, it was the centre of the country in a sense as the High Kings ruled Ireland from this very site. From the hill, there is a lovely view of the surrounding area. It is said that a quarter of Ireland’s countryside is visible from this hill.

1:45pm Our next destination is the notable monastery of Monasterboice. We will see the Celtic High Cross of Muirdach at Monasterboice which is the finest High Cross in the country. Explore the monastery, take in the history and see well preserved examples of Irish religious artefacts. Part of the monastery that stands out from afar is the round tower, the second highest round tower in all of Ireland. These towers were built by the monks and locals as a refuge from attacking Vikings.

3:30pm The charming town of Drogheda is our final stop before we return to Dublin. A local guide will walk you through the town as you learn the fascinating history. This is one of the oldest towns of Ireland. We will visit St Peter’s Church where there is a shrine to St Oliver Plunkett. A shrine like no other!

6:00pm We will arrive back in Dublin to reminisce about the history we have discovered and all of the exciting highlights!

Celtic Boyne Valley Tour Testimonials

“Great †celtic‡ tour”

We did the celtic Boyne Valley tour and it was really nice. This company is the only one doing this tour and it is very authentic. We were a very small group of people (7). Our guide, Caroline, was great. She knows a lot about Irish History and is explaining it with a lot of passion. She also played Irish songs (modern and traditional) during the drive. The places we visited were nice, except the city of Drogheda, that is not worth spending 1 hour in my opinion.

I would definitely travel with this company again, and want to thank Caroline for her interesting guidance and enthusiasm.

“Celtic‡ Boyne Valley Day Tour”

My husband and I went on this tour and it has been our FAVORITE thing we've done so far! JIM, our tour guide, was amazing. He was very knowledgable about Irish history and Celtic traditions and he had us laughing. The views from Tara Hill and Loughcrew were breath taking and what we imagined when we thought of visiting Ireland. I wish I could give this tour more than five stars! We would recommend it to anyone.
