Overview

Ireland is packed with hidden treasures — places where charming scenery rubs up against a rich and fascinating history. So where do you find such treasures? Well, in Glendalough and Wicklow mountains.

The ruins of the early medieval monastery at Glendalough are a particular highlight, while the sweeping forested hillsides and crystalline lakes offer the perfect backdrops. Exploring this singular landscape is easy with our Wicklow Glendalough tour.

The Glendalough and Wicklow Mountains tour departs from Dublin at 9:30 AM. After a warm welcome from your guide, and the chance to meet the other guests sharing the experience with you, the drive through the stunning Irish countryside awaits.

We arrive at Glendalough Monastery around 10:30 AM. You'll have one and a half hours to explore this monastic site. Saint Kevin founded this Christian settlement in the 6th century, with most existing structures built in the 10th-12th centuries. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in a charming environment, and then we continue the tour. Unfortunately, lunch is not provided, so we do ask that you bring sandwiches or something similar with you for the trip.

Next stop: Hollywood. Only this time it's the original Hollywood. From here, we'll take you to a working sheep farm in the heart of County Wicklow. Meet with a local farmer and discover more about the agricultural history of this corner of Ireland. You'll even get to witness a sheepdog demonstration in action — not many other tours can offer that.

Ireland's beauty is out there waiting for you. And a day trip to the Glendalough and Wicklow mountains is the perfect way to unlock the magic.

Itinerary

09:30: Departure from Dublin

This day trip leaves Dublin at 9:30 AM. We depart from the Molly Malone statue on Suffolk Street. Please arrive 10 minutes early to meet your guide and fellow travellers. The map is linked on our booking page.

Working Sheep Farm

Our last stop of the day is a working sheep farm in the heart of County Wicklow. Get up close with the goings on of farm life, and learn about the culture from a local farmer. A sheepdog demonstration provides the cherry on the cake for this part of the trip.

Glendalough Monastery

We arrive at the famous Glendalough Monastery early in the afternoon. This is the perfect arrival time, with most people having already left. It's really worth taking your time to explore this place, so we give you 90 full minutes to really get acquainted with its beauty.

Holywood Village

Our next stop is a quaint village with a famous name. Hollywood in Wicklow isn't as famous as its Californian cousin, but it was definitely here first.

4:30 PM: Arrive in Dublin

We arrive back in Dublin at 4:30 PM, full of great memories and stories to tell. We drop you back at the Molly Malone statue on Suffolk Street, where your adventure began many hours ago.

Things to bring

Our Wicklow Day tours from Dublin take in natural wonders and historic sights over more than eight hours. We're all about comfort and convenience for everyone on our trips. To make sure you get the very best out of the tour, it's advisable to bring the following:

  • Camera

  • Sunglasses

  • Raincoat – just in case it rains!

  • Headphones to listen to the commentary on the multilingual app

  • Charging cable and power bank to keep your devices charged (some buses do have charging ports but not all)

  • Spending money / credit card to pick up souvenirs & tip your driver!

Appropriate shoes for walking on rough terrain. If you can predict one thing about Ireland's weather, you can't predict it. Stay prepared, and dress for the conditions. Comfortable and supportive shoes are useful too — the terrain may be beautiful, but it can get a little uneven out there
